OVERVIEW – The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) is a financial inclusion initiative launched by the Government of India in August 2014. Its primary aim is to ensure access to financial services, such as banking and deposit accounts, credit, insurance, and pension, to the marginalized sections of society, including the rural and urban poor.

How to Apply Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana

To apply for the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), you can follow these steps:

  1. Visit a Bank/Branch: Approach any bank branch or Business Correspondent (Bank Mitr) outlet near you.
  2. Application Form: Ask for the PMJDY account opening form. Fill out the form with accurate details. Make sure to provide all the necessary documents.
  3. Documents Required: You will typically need to provide identity proof (such as Aadhaar card, PAN card, Voter ID, etc.), address proof (utility bills, rent agreement, etc.), and a passport-size photograph. The specific requirements may vary from bank to bank.
  4. Submit the Form: Once you have filled out the form and gathered the required documents, submit them to the bank representative.
  5. Biometric Verification: In many cases, biometric verification (fingerprint and/or iris scan) might be required for authentication purposes. This is usually done at the bank branch or through a Business Correspondent.
  6. Receive Account Details: After the verification process is complete, you will be provided with your PMJDY account details, including your account number and other relevant information.
  7. Get Rupay Debit Card: Additionally, you will receive a Rupay debit card linked to your PMJDY account, which can be used for transactions at ATMs and for purchases at merchant establishments.
